1:1 Specialist Mentor

Specialist 1:1 Mentor:

As a Specialist 1:1 Mentor, I support students to develop learning support strategies that help to maintain continuity and progress in managing their mental health condition whilst studying at university. I support a diverse range of students with obsessive compulsive disorder, bi-polar, ADHD, ADD, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety. This work requires that I understand how a specific mental health condition has an effect on each individual learner in order to develop their bespoke learning strategies to aid the management of their mental health condition. I work in an holistic person-centred manner that directly reflects the aspirations and needs of each student.

Some of these strategies include support for;

  • organisation and time management of academic workload
  • work/life balance
  • motivational support
  • problem solving
  • coping strategies
  • managing anxiety and stress
  • developing self awareness, coping & wellbeing and resilience
  • coping with change
  • developing SMART targets and action tasks
  • mindfulness and stress awareness
  • exam and assessment stress
  • signposting and self advocacy
